I do believe that there are group norms at SJSU. I have not
been in any groups at SJSU but in general, I think there are norms throughout
the campus. For example, when you’re in the library or see someone working
diligently, you should know not to walk up and try to get them to join your
group or both them. Or when you are in
the gym and someone is working out, they usually don’t want to be bothered by
others. I’m sure that other groups within SJSU have different norms, but since
I have never been a part of one I wouldn’t know exact norms of them. Within my group of friends, there are group
norms. I would have to say that when we all hangout it’s a norm to invite each
other over, even if it’s not your house. There is a respect level among us that
we all follow. Also when we go to each other’s house for dinner or to hangout,
you should always bring something to share with each other. Each group has their
own norms and over time you adapt to the norms by going with the flow and
following what the others do, so that you can learn them better.
